We left Marrakech a few days ago and started the second half of our tour around Morocco, this time focussing on the south.

Our last night with the first tour group was spent having dinner at the Djina el Fnaa, the main square in Morocco and the site of snake charmers, street performances, food and orange juice vendors.

The next day was spent recouperating from our stomach bugs and then out to dinner to meet our new tour companions.

Unlike the first half of our trip, the second half will be mostly travelled by minivan, owing to the unreliable transport networks and vast distances we need to cover in this part of the trip.

At 9 am, our driver Lessan collected us and then we were away to the first stop on our trip, the mountain gite (hotel) in Aroumd, which was an hour long walk (believe me it was long!) uphill to our accommodation.

Once we made it to the gite, we were served a lovely lunch and had all worked up a strong appetite by this time!

There was an option to do a four hour hike, but owing to Steve's lingering tummy bug and my generally lack of willingness to climb hills, we stayed to relax on the rooftop of the gite, reading and generally relaxing.

After another lovely homecooked dinner, we were asked if we would like some henna designs painted on our hands or feet by a local girl. Being the brave guinea pig I am, I went first and received some lovely designs...which I hope fade by the time I get back to work!!!

I also discovered a new friend in the gite.

The next morning we hiked back down to Imlil where we were collected for our long drive to Ait Ben Hadou, in the Atlas Mountains.

The Kasbah in Ait Ben Hadou is a world heritage site and is also the location for the shooting of many famous films, including Gladiator.

We took a walk up to the kasbah and despite almost being blown off the top, had stunning views of the surrounding area.

We set off this morning with a new driver and made the trek towards the Sahara.

We have made it to Zagora and set off on our camels tomorrow into the desert. Huzzah.
